The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), representing US leadership in semiconductor manufacturing and design, announced that Steven Laub, President and CEO of Atmel Corp., and Tunc Doluca, President and CEO of Maxim Integrated Products Inc., have joined the SIA Board of Directors. Both CEOs were approved in a unanimous vote during a regular session of the Board of Directors meeting on June 9, 2011.
"We are honored to welcome Steve and Tunc to the SIA Board of Directors. Both are true industry leaders and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the association. What sets SIA apart from other advocacy groups is the consistent executive-level engagement from our Board Members across all of the issues that are critical to advancing SIA's public policy agenda," said Brian Toohey, President, Semiconductor Industry Association. "Not surprisingly, our membership has increased since our move in 2010 to Washington, DC, signifying that the leaders in the semiconductor industry are acutely aware of the effects that government regulations and policies are having on the business climate in the US"
Laub and Doluca join a distinguished group of industry executives from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Altera Corp., Analog Devices, Fairchild Semiconductor, Freescale Semiconductor, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, IBM Corp., Intel Corp., Intersil Corp, Linear Technology Corp., LSI Corp., Micron Technology, ON Semiconductor, PMC-Sierra, Qualcomm CDMA Technologies, and Texas Instruments Inc.
An over 20-year veteran of the semiconductor industry, Steven Laub has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Atmel since August 2006 and as a director of Atmel since February 2006. Since joining the company as President and CEO, Mr. Laub has transformed Atmel from a memory company to a high-growth microcontroller-based company. Laub holds a degree in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles (B.A.) and a degree from Harvard Law School (J.D.).
"I am delighted to join SIA's Board of Directors and to work closely with the other members on the team," said Laub. "I believe the SIA is a prominent voice in the semiconductor industry that can help resolve some very important policy issues in the semiconductor industry including tax reform, export control, environmental health and safety, trade and research and technology."
Tunc Doluca became President and CEO of Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. in January 2007 and has been with the company for 27 years in various leadership roles. Trained in device physics, Doluca has designed more than 40 products and holds 11 patents. These products range from high-speed data converters in his early years at Maxim to breakthrough power-management products later in his design career. Mr. Doluca designed the industry's first high-integration, notebook power-supply IC (the MAX786). Born in Ankara, Turkey, Doluca holds a BSEE degree from Iowa State University and an MSEE degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
"Approximately 70 percent of Maxim's products are made in the USA vast majority of our product and technology development is done in this country, where we employ thousands of people," said Doluca. "Maintaining a viable electronics industry in America is critically important to our company, and I look forward to working with my fellow board members to ensure that the US semiconductor industry maintains its leadership position."
