In order to support its global research and development efforts, Freescale Semiconductor is expanding its India operations with the acquisition of a 300,000 ft2 campus in Noida. The new facility will also play a significant role in the company’s plans to expand its presence to 1500 engineers in India over the next four years.
The India Design Center focuses on system-on-chip design and intellectual property development. It is one of two centers of excellence in the Asia-Pacific region and will be the largest design center outside of the United States once the expansion is complete. Also, it will be one of the only non-US design centers to develop and deliver R&D products to all three of Freescale's business groups serving the transportation, networking, consumer and wireless markets.
"Freescale is committed to investing in talent across our global design operations and India represents a particularly attractive opportunity," said Sumit Sadana, Freescale's senior vice president, strategy and business development. "We've had operations in India for almost two decades and want to leverage the highly-educated Indian workforce and growing Indian market."
Ganesh Guruswamy, India country manager and director, Freescale Semiconductor India Pvt. Ltd., added, "Our India design teams work on some of the most advanced 90 nanometer and 65 nanometer designs for applications such as wireless basebands, applications processing and communications processors. We get excellent results out of our existing India operations and this campus gives us room to triple our presence in India by 2010."
